Eleanor
Alfred, Caregiver
Eleanor Alfred is 42, a widow, and
HIV positive. She always introduces herself as “Living Positive.” Her
children are all dead. She says she knows how painful it
is to have AIDS and she knows firsthand what a difference
ARVs and other treatment can make. She is committed to making
sure that all children in Goromonzi are taken care of and
get medication if they need it. She facilitates HIV testing
and treatment for children who need it. She was working under
her own initiative, providing counseling and support for
the children and their grandmothers and aunties before she
teamed up with the Goromonzi Project. The Sue Levin Foundation
in England has donated a motorcycle for her use so now she can travel to see
more orphans and vulnerable children. The Goromonzi Project is providing her
with a small stipend to cover her expenses. She works together as a team with
Isdore Mugodhi on the Goromonzi Project staff.
